It was a good day to hangout with grandma and and uncle R. Did nothing fantastic but just showed them my place, lunch and take them to collect their passports. Its also really good to see uncle R again ever since seeing him last a few years ago. Uncle R is more like a big brother to me than an uncle even 12 years older - in other words a "cool" uncle. Its just so easy to talk and joke with him and playfully pat of his back for making naive me believe him in what i thought was bluffs...
believe me.... when he said "makan kecil" was a real Malay word for appetizer/starter i just didnt believe him... thought he was bluffing... and there was some truth to that if you are speaking indonesian lar :-)
And another word "poo poo party".... now how can i believe that? i thought he made it up :) Coz it sounded more like what you call a baby poo poo... But again there is such a party and "poo poo" in this context means appetizer/starter/makan kecil in hawaiian. It seems ppl getting together for poo poo parties is not uncommon in hawaii.... really.. that's what poo poo means there... so if you are ever in Hawaii make sure you bring the right poo poo to a "poo poo party" :-)
He was refreshing his Malay after not having spoken it for some time by reading the some Malays words aloud. He then came across the word as we passed by a gas station "Kedai Serbeneka" and asked what "serbaneka" meant. Told him it meant kiosk and it took him so long to believe me.... he thought the word sounded funny and he thought i was bluffing coz i was laughing that he didnt believe me it was a real word ... that was funny...
Another coolness about uncle R is also the fact that he tries impart/share his experiences that has brought him where he is now in a cool chatty way and not the "uncle-ly" way. Most "uncle-uncle" way is uncle talk and we listen. But the cool uncle way is a 2 way conversation!
Sigh... he's just gonna be here for 1 more week... gotta spend some time with him provided no one has booked him yet :) Or a reason to visit him unless the $$ rate goes down more soon...
